Celebrating National Bike to Work Day

Did you know that May 20th is National Bike to Work Day? Many of our employees choose to bike to work regularly to add a bit of fun and fitness to their commute. According to The League of American Bicyclists, 40% of all work commutes in the U.S. are less than two miles, making bicycling a feasible and fun way to get around.

Purdue Federal Credit Union President & CEO Bob Falk set a goal in March 2021 to bike to work for 100 days. Not only did he successfully accomplish that goal, but he also calculated his carbon reduction from his rides and reduced his carbon footprint by 1,291 pounds! His route took him 5 miles to work and 5 miles back, bringing the total miles during his 100 rides to 1,000. "I have definitely looked forward to the trips to and from work, which isn’t exactly the same feeling you get when you get into a car to make the same journey," Bob said of the experience.

Employee health and wellness are essential values at Purdue Federal. That's why we offer wellness incentives to all employees free of charge, such as a fitness facility, health screenings, health seminars, flu shots, and blood drives. In addition, the League of American Bicyclists recently awarded our Win Hentschel location a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Business award. The award recognizes employers for their efforts to encourage a more welcoming atmosphere for bicycling employees, customers, and the community. Businesses that welcome and accommodate bike commuting increase productivity and improve employee health, wellness, and morale. Purdue Federal is proud to provide a welcoming atmosphere for bicycling members and employees!
