Life Skills
You’ll end up picking up lots of skills that will stick with you far beyond your college years. Many clubs have opportunities for you to land a leadership role or become part of a committee. This is great hands on experience to be able to gain. Better yet, you’ll find yourself nailing down communication and time management skills without even realizing it. Getting involved also means collaborating on ideas and projects with others, fostering great teamwork skills. Whether its leadership, communication, or time management, the lessons often sneak up on you without noticing.
Resume Builder
Being active on campus demonstrates to potential employers that you possess a range of valuable skills. Not only will you have all these skills in your pocket, but it also reflects your passions and personality. Recruiters appreciate candidates who are well-rounded and committed to their interests. Participating in organizations on campus shows your dedication and enthusiasm, making you a more attractive candidate.
Make sure to use these experiences in interviews and networking with recruiters, too! These activities are often easier to talk about than some of your general courses, and your experiences through your campus involvement can be really applicable to various questions you may be asked.
Stress Reducer
While extra campus activities might add to your list of calendar events, taking some time away from classes and homework can provide a much-needed break. This isn’t to say that your club or activity won’t be stressful in and of itself at times, but you’ll be able to be surrounded by friends and contributing to something as an outlet. Being a part of something that you care about will foster some great memories and help clear your head of any school stresses. It gives your mind a chance to relax and recharge, which will ultimately improve your academic performance.
Fun Fact: Students who participate in extracurricular activities and clubs tend to have higher grades than those who are less involved.
Get Involved!
Next time you find yourself with some extra time, attend that callout you heard about in class or head to the B-Involved Fair to get more information from current members of each club. You can also check out BoilerLink and find a list of all the organizations on campus! Find something that drives your passion and interests so you can stay enthusiastic and motivated about it. Prioritize your commitments and find room for these experiences that will enhance your college life.
