You have a lot to handle when managing an estate.

There's a lot of responsibility, especially during a difficult time. We make it simple to open an account so you can take care of what matters.

What is an estate?

An estate account is used to manage the financial affairs of someone who has passed away. A court-appointed individual, called a personal representativeexecutor, or administrator, is responsible for:

  • Collecting assets
  • Paying debts
  • Distributing funds to beneficiaries

Who can access the account?

Only the court-appointed individual can access and manage the account, including:

  • Deposit checks made payable to the decedent or the estate
  • Write checks, make payments and use a debit card
  • Access and manage accounts through digital banking
  • Close the account once the estate is settled

What you'll need

To open an estate account, you must meet these requirements and provide the following documents:

  • The estate must be established in Indiana
  • The decedent must have had an active membership prior to passing, or all beneficiaries must be members
  • Copy of the death certificate
  • One of the following court documents: Letters of Testamentary, Letters of Administration, Notice of Administration
